Naming of Network Resources

Some of the network resources on campus will require that a user authenticate before access is allowed. In an effort to keep the configuration of these connections consistent, Information Technology has implemented the following resource naming policies.

1. A user’s profile user name on their desktop or laptop computer must be the same user name used for their email account. This policy is required across all devices used by each client and each profile name contains a description of the device.  Ex. xxxxx-pc, xxxxx-laptop
2. The user’s email account user name also needs to be used for connecting to mapped drives and network storage devices.
