Log4j Hack Vulnerability

Loyola has taken steps to patch servers throughout our environment to protect our campus from the Log4J vulnerability.  We now ask that you take the necessary steps to ensure our client computers are protected.  The main concern is the IBM SPSS program.  If you have IBM SPSS on your computer, but you do not use it, we ask that you remove it.  If you have it installed on your computer and you do use it, we ask that you apply the patch to keep your computer safe.  If you have more than one computer, please verify these steps on all of your computers.  Please note that the patches included on this site are for SPSS v. 26 and 27.  If you still have version 25 or earlier, please uninstall the program.

Here are the steps we ask you to take on all of your computers.  These steps can prevent your computer from being hacked.

1. Ensure that your firewall is turned on.

2. Verify your computer is running the Carbon Black antivirus program (for Loyola Computers only).  On personal computers make sure your virus program is running and up to date.

4. If you have SPSS installed and need to use it,  you must patch the software to protect your computer from being hacked.   Close SPSS if it is running and download the files and click the .exe file to run the script.  Note:  You will be warned by your browser that this may be a dangerous file.  It is safe. Download the file anyway and keep the file, if it gives you the option of discarding it.  Also, please note that the patches included on this site are for SPSS v. 26 and 27.  If you still have version 25 or earlier, please uninstall the program.
